TEHRAN: Commander of the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps General Amir Ali Hajizadeh has warned the United States and the Zionist regime that an attack on Iran would likely trigger World War III.

Speaking to the Arabic news network Al-Alam on Sunday, General Hajizadeh said that the U.S. and Israeli regimes may not enter a war with Iran "independent from one another, meaning that whichever of the two starts a war, it will be joined by the other."

"We see the United States and the Zionist regime standing fast alongside one another, and it cannot be imagined that the Zionist regime would initiate war without American support. For this reason, if war breaks out, we will certainly take the battle to both, and will definitely be engaged with America's bases.

"In the event, a series of incidents will occur that will be uncontrollable and unmanageable. Such a war may well turn into a third world war. That means certain countries will enter the war on the side of or against, Iran," added the general.

The commander warned that if a war on Iran is waged, "U.S. bases in countries around us will be targeted, and may even come under attack by the governments in those very nations."

In recent days, in the face the Israeli regime's continued and growing threats against the Islamic Republic, Iranian military officials have stepped up their preparations.

On Saturday, top Revolutionary Guards commander, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, said an enemy invasion of Iran is possible, but that such a war would end the Zionist regime.

"Owing to the rapidity of the growth and development of the Islamic Revolution, this cancerous tumor, Israel, is challenging us to war. But it remains unclear when such a war maight take place," Jafari said in Tehran on Saturday.

"War may break out. But if the Zionists start something, it will be the beginning of their own annihilation - the endpoint of their story," he added.

Jafari also underlined that "no one would dare wage an extensive ground assault on Iran." The general said that if the enemy were wise, there wouldn't be any problem, but that, "there is no guarantee of rationality, so we should be prepared."

Later yesterday, his deputy, Brigadier General Hossein Salami, cautioned that any attack by the Zionist regime would provide an opportunity for Tehran to wipe the regime off the earth.

"If the Zionists embark on attacking Iran, it will provide a historic opportunity for the Islamic Revolution to wipe them out of global geographical history," Salami said Saturday night on state-run TV.

"We are finished being concerned about the Zionist regime's threats," he said, adding that Israel has bitter memories of its wars last decade with regional allies of Iran, including Hezbullah and Hamas.

"Given these failures, how does it expect to pose a threat to the Islamic Republic of Iran?" Salami asked.

In the meantime, Salami underlined Iran's readiness to confront any aggression. "Our power rests on the basis of our defensive strategy, the presumption of which is that we will engage in a massive battle with a U.S.-led coalition."

On Friday, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Seyed Hassan Firouzabadi warned that Tehran would reciprocate any aggression with an "immediate, unstoppable" response.

"We don't feel threatened by the boastful remarks of Zionist leaders, because they are creatures with deep fears. Knowing that Iran's response will be fast, immediate and unstoppable, they never cease crying out," Major General Firouzabadi told reporters, on the sidelines of military parades on September 21 marking the Week of Sacred Defense here in Tehran.

"Officials of the Zionist regime have stated their estimates that military operations against Iran cannot be accomplished by Israel - nor would it be useful to them," he added. He also said that Iran's armed forces are unpredictable and that their strategy and actions cannot be foreseen by its enemies.

Sacred Defense Week, commemorating the sacrifices Iranians had to make during the eight year way Iraq imposed on Iran during 1980s. It began on Friday with nationwide parades by units of the Islamic Republic Army, Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and the Basij (volunteer) forces.
