If the next pope is Black - prepare for the 'Obama-Pontiff'
Racism and the 'Obama'
Pope (Regiao de Leiria,
Portugal)
"And the marketing
campaigns by the Vatican? I can already predict a collage along with the U.S. president.
Posters at the Vatican - Photoshop presentations with the face of Barack Obama in
the white robe of the Pope - and vice-versa. The Vatican Obama will be a
superstar - and I can hardly wait."
Cardinal-Priest of San Liborio in Ghana, Peter Turkson, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, just may be the next pope. If so, prepare for comparisons and representations of he and President Barack Obama.
The state of Mississippi, in the United States, officially
abolished slavery this week. The next pope could be from Ghana, in Africa. These
were two pieces of "Black" news that make our country shudder.
What will happen when this possible Pope, Peter Turkson,
visits Portugal? Where will this subtle racism that the United Nations says
exists in our country be hidden?
I want to see our country confronted with the dilemma of
calling the new Pope "Black" or "negro" or "African."
The readership of newspapers without any circulation will be boosted by entire
essays about how there is no national consensus on what is politically correct.
There will be highway accidents caused by drivers commonly mesmerized by the
magnificent skin color of the new Catholic leader.
If the new pope were a woman, and if by chance I was
blessedly chosen, everything would be resolved. They could call the new pope whatever
they pleased - well, anything but "dark" or "colored."
And the marketing campaigns by the Vatican? I can already
predict a collage along with the U.S. president. Posters at the Vatican - Photoshop
presentations with the face of Barack Obama in the white robe of the Pope - and
vice-versa. The Vatican Obama will be a superstar - and I can hardly wait.
