Iraq Caught Between
the American Musician and Iranian Dancer!!
"When Bush Junior's Christian motives coincided with those of Iran's Islamic
clerics, the turban of the imam met the crown of the Pope. ... Both sides see in the other
the chance to infiltrate and destroy the power of its opponents."
During a visit to Isfahan, the site of four Chinese-built nuclear reactors, President Ahmadinejad expressed his conviction that America seeks to prevent the emergence of the Shiite Messiah, and that it's Iran's destiny to 'administer the world.'
America played the music and
Iran danced. The party and the exchange of toasts took place on the territory
of Iraq, which was occupied under political calculations that can only be described
as the barbarianism of force. Both sponsors of the celebration met their objectives:
when Bush Junior's Christian motives coincided with those of Iran's Islamic
clerics, the turban of the imam met the crown of the Pope.
Bush the son believed that the
occupation of Iraq wasn't symbolic but inspired by God, which gave him the
absolute right to act as the messiah's messenger; similarly, the other party, which benefited
from the removal of Saddam Hussein and entered the heart and future of Iraq,
acted under the inspiration of the Hidden Imam, who directs
his message to the world through Iran and is due to reappear when justice is achieved.
But why is Iraq the victim to be sacrificed on the alter of these parties? Why
wasn’t another country chosen?
By handing to
Iran the keys to Baghdad, America plunged Iraq into the unknown - and this, after it removed the
burden of the Afghan Taliban from Tehran's shoulders. Perhaps America's thinking was that Iran, even in its
radical form, was the best potential ally. But contrary to American
expectations, the Taliban and al-Qaeda, with ideologies on the margins of
history, strengthened their alliance with Iran. Provided by the U.S., Iran's
spoils of war came in the form of relief from the twin nightmares of Saddam and
Afghanistan. It is perhaps the political expectations of White House officials that
most often get them into trouble.
They helped Afghanistan expel
the Soviets, which gave rise to terrorist camps in the country. Then, in a
scenario of America's own making, the Taliban attacked the entire world,
including the U.S., which was rocked to the core by the events of September 11.
The same steps are now being repeated, with America putting its money on Iran
as the main regional player even as all signs point to war. Both sides see in
the other the chance to infiltrate and destroy the power of its opponents. While
Iran is in a state of domestic turmoil triggered by contradictions within the
regime and conflicts among its religious leaders, any forecast that doesn't
take into account the military risks could result in global turmoil, especially
since this theater of war, which sits atop the planet's largest oil reserves, would
be the world's most dangerous.
It's true that there is no
justification for Iran to possess nuclear weapons, but the option of economic
sanctions remains open. And after thirty years of experience considered by Iran's
new generation as not meeting its needs and aspirations, so is motivating the
domestic opposition rather than stabilizing the central government now that the
religious authorities are no longer the main engine of state.

Iraq is a victim of the past
and is experiencing a multi-faceted domestic conflict. But Iran is more visible
than any other country because America handed it a central role in a conflict that
has detached Iraq from its Arab environment [as opposed to Persian].
Just as the invasion was
pursued under religious illusions that combined Christian concepts with
military force, the illusion of democracy in a country torn by foreign and
domestic factors is a framework that will put Iraq on a path of crises for a
long time to come.
